Bergerhoff Dust
The Water Lab
Get Started
Bergerhoff dust monitoring is carried out at many EPA-licensed facilities across Ireland — including waste-licensed sites, IPPC-licensed facilities, and during the construction phase of large-scale infrastructure projects. The method follows the German standard VDI 2119, which sets out exact criteria for the dust jar dimensions, stand height, jar opening width, and placement.
Monitoring involves leaving the jar in a fixed outdoor location for 30 days, during which airborne particles are deposited into the jar along with rainfall.
After the 30-day exposure period, the jars are returned to our laboratory for analysis using gravimetric and evaporative methods, with the final result expressed as mg/m²/day. The limit specified in many EPA licences is 350 mg/m²/day, and our reporting confirms whether your site falls within compliance.
Alongside Bergerhoff monitoring, we also offer directional dust monitoring using sticky pad adaptors — providing all the necessary equipment to give a directional reading over a defined period. This is useful where you need to identify the source of dust deposition rather than just measure the total amount.
